The new issue of foot&shoe (1/2025) has been published with reports on the diabetic foot, user practices in the use of assistive devices, the IVO Congress 2024 in Switzerland and an outlook on the ORTHOPÄDIE SCHUH TECHNIK - International Trade Fair and Congress on October 24 and 25, 2025 in Cologne, Germany.

In the current issue, we report In 2006, a risk classification for diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) and analogous neuro-angio-arthro-
pathies was developed for the first time in Germany, which was intended to make the provision of
foot bedding, shoes and orthoses more transparent and easier for everyone involved. This risk group
classifi cation has now been revised and approved on April 21, 2024 by the DDG Foot Working Group
and the DGOOC Advisory Committee for Pedorthics. The new version replaces the version in force
since 2006.
In his article, Fred Holtkamp from Fonty's University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, addresses the question of why many assistive devices are custom-made with great expertise, but are nevertheless used little or not at all by patients. His suggestion: more attention needs to be paid to the actual needs of users and, before production, the areas of life and practises for which they want to use the device.
We also report in detail on the IVO Congress in Switzerland in October 2024, which once again proved to be an important meeting place for pedorthics and scientific and interdisciplinary exchange of information.
We also provide an outlook on ORTHOPÄDIE SCHUH TECHNIK - International Trade Fair and Congress on October 24 and 25, 2025 in Cologne, where not only the global community of pedorthists will meet. All major industry partners will also be presenting their products and services at the trade fair.
