WHO’s Assistive Product List
The World Health Organization (WHO) created in March of this year a list with 50 of the most important assistive technologies. This priority Assistive Product List (APL) is likely to influence health policies globally. Karl-Heinz Schott explains how the IVO promoted the inclusion of services provided by pedorthists.

Foot-Biomechanics: Windlass-Mechanism
The windlass mechanism is, simply put, the tightening of the plantar fascia in the push-off phase. As it tightens it acts to stop the foot collapsing by supporting the arch and helps propel the body forward. Dr. Ludwig Schwering explains why this is so important for the gait.

Foot orthoses – a scientific review
Foot orthoses play a major role in many therapeutic fields. However, there is little or no evidence on their effectiveness in the form of scientific publications. Stefan Sesselmann and his team provide an overview of the existing evidence on foot orthoses for typical areas of indication and give advice for therapy.
